Flashing guide

Requirements

Here is the list of files and tools required to flash your device via micro SD card:

  1. One micro SD card
  2. The HP Drive Key Boot Utility
  3. The package containing the following files:
    • update_and_test.img
    • fs.cramfs
    • image.bin
    • sbsl.bin
    • user.img
    • update_only (optional)
    • force_format (optional)

Prepare (restore) a micro SD card

On Windows XP

Note: The HP tool doesn’t work under Windows Vista/Seven

1. Extract the update package.
2. Install HP Drive Key Boot Utility.
3. Launch it and click Next.

4. Select the drive letter and click Next.

5. Select Backup/Restore and click Next.

6. Browse your drive, select update_and_test.img and click Next.

7. Click Finish. The drive is unmounted.

8. Unplug/plug the micro SD card adapter and browse it.
9. Copy the files fs.cramfs, image.bin, sbsl.bin, user.img, force_format and update_only on the micro SD card.

Note: The restoration takes 4-5 minutes.

On Linux

Method #1

  1. Open a console.
  2. Extract the update package.
  3. Connect the pen drive and type dmesg .
    • This command returns the mount point like /dev/sda or /dev/sdb. Here we will use /dev/sda.
  4. Type cat update_and_test.img > /dev/sda .
  5. Unplug/plug the pen drive and browse it.
  6. Copy in the files fs.cramfs, image.bin, sbsl.bin, user.img, force_format and update_only on the micro SD card.
    • The pen drive is ready.

Method #2

  1. Open a console.
  2. Extract the update package.
  3. Connect the pen drive and type dmesg .
    • This command returns the mount point like /dev/sda or /dev/sdb. Here we will use /dev/sda.
  4. Type umount /dev/sda to unmount all mount points like /dev/sda.
  5. Type cat update_and_test.img > /dev/sda to dump the image.
  6. Unplug/plug the pen drive and browse it.
  7. Copy in the files fs.cramfs, image.bin, sbsl.bin, user.img, force_format and update_only on the micro SD card.
    • The pen drive is ready.

Method #3

  1. Open a console.
  2. Extract the update package.
  3. Connect the pen drive and type dmesg .
    • This command returns the mount point like /dev/sda or /dev/sdb. Here we will use /dev/sda.
  4. Type umount /dev/sda to unmount all mount points like /dev/sda.
  5. Type dd if= update_and_test.img of=/dev/sda to dump the image.
  6. Unplug/plug the pen drive and browse it.
  7. Copy in the files fs.cramfs, image.bin, sbsl.bin, user.img, force_format and update_only on the micro SD card.
    • The pen drive is ready.

Update the device

  1. The Dreevo3 must be OFF.
  2. Insert the microSD then turn the Dreevo3 ON.
  3. The following message screen is displayed. The update is running.
  4. Once updated, the following screen is displayed. The update is finished.
  5. Remove the microSD then use the stylus to reset the Dreevo3.
  6. The suspendOnROM image will be created at the next boot.
